Let’s Talk Donor Cows!
I want to talk to you about our donor cows today. We're very excited about what we've got on offer from these girls.
We started out, with three donor cows quite some time ago; two of which have really bubbled to the top; Strathewen Regent Mittagong J23 and Strathewen Regent Wilpena J53).
We've a number of their progeny in the donor herd that we want to share.
In our Blog Post and on our YouTube Channel come and learn more about:
Barnett Disco Girl N1
Barnett Disco Girl N4
Barnett Nefertiti N6
Barnett Nefertiti N7
Barnett Nefertiti N8
Barnett Fail Safe Q10
Barnett Mittagong Girl Q11
Ayrvale Quarter Q23
Ayrvale Queanbeyan Q78
Ayrvale Prototype P51
Barnett Nefertiti Legend Q3
Barnett Disco Girl N1 and Barnett Disco Girl N4
Both by VAR Discovery 2240 and both out of Strathewen Regent Mittagong J23, these are two flush sisters, Barnett Disco Girl N1 and Barnett Disco Girl N4. They are both very powerful long, strong, top cows.
Barnett Disco Girl N1 is a really deep bodied, very fleshy animal, whereas Barnett Disco Girl N4 is a little bit more elongated. She's got a beautiful front on a smooth shoulder, and she has bred a bull that we have as a semen sire.
They are two very special flushed sisters that we've used quite a bit.
Barnett Nefertiti N6, Barnett Nefertiti N7 and Barnett Nefertiti N8
Some other flush sisters are Barnett Nefertiti N6, Barnett Nefertiti N7 and Barnett Nefertiti N8. The three of them are GAR Prophet daughters and they are out of our other key donor cows. Fantastic phenotype in these ones.
Good feet, strong top and Barnett Nefertiti N6 & Barnett Nefertiti N8 in particular have had super calves this year that we're very excited about.
Barnett Nefertiti N8 is probably the heaviest cow on the farm. Lovely kind nature, beautiful strong Angus head on her.
Barnett Fail Safe Q10
Barnett Fail Safe Q10 is a really balanced package; long sided, angular feminine female out of one of three flush sisters that are like peas in a pod.
A granddaughter of Strathewen Regent Mittagong J23 and one of GAR’s highly valued and proven cows - Progress 830. We love the shape and style of Barnett Fail Safe Q10 in a very functional efficient phenotype. 100 of these in the paddock would be just fantastic.
Barnett Mittagong Girl Q11
Another one of our donor cows is Barnett Mittagong Girl Q11. She is out of Barnett Disco Girl N2 which is a flush sister to Barnett Disco Girl N1 and Barnett Disco Girl N4 and she's a GAR Scale House daughter. Enormous amount of performance in this animal, a great IMF. She is a soft, easy doing beautiful natured animal.
Ayrvale Quarter Q23, Ayrvale Queanbeyan Q78 and Ayrvale Prototype P51
Then we move on to three donors with the Ayrvale prefix, the first of which is Ayrvale Quarter Q23. If you stand behind her, you can't see anything else because she has got such a wide backside. So muscular; a tremendously thick muscle pattern. But she's feminine at the same time and has a beautiful Angus head. An IMF of 3.8, which is not all that usual, in the top 5%.
The other two Ayrvale donors, Ayrvale Queanbeyan Q78 and Ayrvale Prototype P51 were purchased at the Ayrvale dispersal sale.
Ayrvale Queanbeyan Q78 is probably a frame 5 with all the thickness and phenotype you would hope for in a typical angus cow. She has a very powerful pedigree with Complement on the top side and Bartel’s sister on the bottom side. With an IMF of 4.3 she is the sort of cow that gives us many mating options.
Ayrvale Prototype P51 is one of the highest IMF in our herd at 5.4 and an animal that oozes performance. My granddaughter calls her the elephant. She is a big volume animal with a very powerful top line and just has a dominant presence in the paddock. She is a Murray Proceed daughter.
Barnett Nefertiti Legend Q3
Finally, Barnett Nefertiti Legend Q3. A daughter of Barnett Nefertiti N6 by VAR Legend 5019. Not many cows in the breed can top her growth carcase and selections indexes with 9 parameters at 1%.
Barnett Nefertiti Legend Q3 is an absolute cracker with a great disposition, smooth front and wide behind.
Well, that's a bit of a roundup of the donors. For more information, go to our website, watch the YouTube video, download a catalogue, and don't forget December 2nd at noon will be the conclusion of the online sale at Elite Livestock.
